Ebb and flow
-the rains, when they returned, were heavy and protracted. Jericho had endured a fitful evening with little rest between rolling and gurgling thunder - not at all the sharp clap of a dry summer storm - while water threatened entry to his high-ground nest. Below, in the canyon, earth moved in heaving flows as the floods ate away the walls, dissipating the energy of the storm.
