Home

Drifting through the landscape in a dream state typical of the early morning hours, Jericho reminded himself of the goal - home. Getting there before the harsh sun wreaked havoc on his sensitive skin. That skin, so typical for a courser, was pale by birth paler still by the troglodytic existence he and his people had come to know. Rations of Vitamin D supplements kept the line from being plagued by rickets but his squinting betrayed the reality of his people's descent into a nocturnal reality.

Holding hand over his brow, he protected himself from the rising sun, expecting the lights on the car immediately ahead of him to be visible in spite of the glare. Every day, a rear-end collision told the obvious story of all-to-close following and its predictable outcome

Scanning east and west, no other living being in sight. Another 400m and he'd duck through the frontway entrance, dipping into the welcoming darkness of the underground - home
